The Promise of Spring – New Beginnings in Life

First daisy flower of spring

Spring is Nature’s way of saying ‘Let’s party!’
~ Robin Williams

For us people down on the Southern Hemisphere winter is coming to an end. It has been a cold and wet season. Fruit and vegetables have become so expensive that my family is on a strict supplement plan to top up on vitamins and minerals, to keep winter illness at bay. It seems to be working and we have only had short bouts of the common cold in our house.

It started very slowly and subtly at first, but by now the days have become noticeably longer, the sunshine much much warmer and buds on plants and trees are swelling. Winter is drawing to a close. Spring is just around the corner. And I can definitely feel an the urge to clean and prepare.

Have you ever made a New Year’s Resolution? Decided on your birthday to do better during the next year? Gotten into shape for summer?

The threshhold of seasons has a mysterious powder to fertilise and grow our resolve for personal change.

When something new is about to start, many of us feel an urge to honor the new beginning. A blank page begs to be written on with extra care. A new house implores us to keep it clean and organised. A new relationship makes us want to present our best qualities. Any fresh start gifts us power to change for the better.

Make use of it! Use this power to your advantage.

Whatever you are planning to change about yourself, do it at the next upcoming change of season in your life. This could be a calendar season, professional season, personal season or simply the start of a new week. For women it could be the start of a new cycle. Plan ahead and prepare. Celebrate. Honor yourself. Believe in yourself. Trust yourself.

Strangely though, it is usually not at the time of change, but prior to the change in seasons, that we feel most inspired to improve. It is at the Promise of Spring, not during Spring itself, that I start to dream and hope and plan. So if you can, make a running start. Plan ahead, and start just before the big day.

And then, when the sun shines warm on your face and the birds sing and the flowers blossom all around, you’ll be a little more you than you were the day before.
